Roberto Maestas, one of the founders and now the executive director of El Centro de la Raza. Maestas along with others began El Centro de la Raza in 1972. By occupying the recently closed Beacon Hill School.
Today El Centro de la Raza is a community based, Chicano-Lation Civil Rights organization that seeks to help people of all colors to empower themselves and encourage basic social change.
